Understanding the Grinberg Method
How is the Grinberg Method different from massage therapy?
The main difference from a traditional massage resides in your participation. You are an active part of the session: I will ask you to contact/let go of specific muscles, allow passivity or resistance in parts of the body, bring your attention and breathe into certain areas, and describe what you’re experiencing.
Who can benefit from the Grinberg Method?
- People who experience frequent or chronic physical issues or psychosomatic conditions that can’t seem to get rid of.
- Those who feel that the body holds onto tension and emotional strain from past traumas or everyday stressors (looks like troubles in relaxing and falling asleep, nervousness, anxiety, …).
- Individuals who feel drained and overwhelmed, experiencing mind-fog, confusion, and lack energy and vitality.
- Anyone who wants to learn about themself through the direct and experiential reality of body sensations instead of overthinking and overanalyzing with the mind.
- People who want to grow out of patterns and beliefs that no longer serve them.
- Those who want to take charge of their well-being and learn practical tools to deal with everything that life throws at them with authenticity and self-confidence.
What qualifications should a Grinberg Method practitioner have?
The Grinberg Method professional studies consist of 3 years with 330 academic hours per year. There is an exam at the end of each year that certifies the Grinberg Practitioner.
I accomplished my 3rd year-level diploma in 2022.

Can the Grinberg Method be used in conjunction with other therapies?
It depends on the therapy. I work with good results as integration for talked therapies (psychotherapy), but I don’t recommend doing other body therapies aside.
How does Biofeedback relate to the Grinberg Method?
The Grinberg Method does not use machines for biofeedback, but it works with a natural form of biofeedback: your body’s sensations.
Through touch, aware breathing, and focused attention, you learn to recognize physical signals—such as tension, temperature shifts, or changes in breathing—that reflect how you react to situations, emotions, or stress. This awareness acts as a real-time feedback system, helping you consciously stop limiting patterns and create new possibilities for well-being and personal growth.
What makes the Grinberg Method unique compared to other body therapies?
The Grinberg Method stands out by integrating body awareness, touch, and attention training to help you recognize and stop limiting Somatic Patterns. Unlike passive treatments, it actively involves you in the process, using sensation-based learning rather than analysis. It focuses on how you embody experiences rather than just treating symptoms, empowering you to respond differently to pain, stress, and emotions—leading to greater freedom, resilience, and well-being.
Is there a code of ethics of the Grinberg Method?
Yes, you can find it here
How Sessions work
What to do before your first session
In the days/hours before the session, it is important you fill in the following form: https://forms.gle/3c6wUAi3fZNMmSPz8
It takes only 10 minutes, but it is essential for the session
How does a Session look like?
At the beginning of each session, we discuss the topic we are going to work on. During this conversation, I will analyze your feet in order to get insights into how you somatically experience the subject we are discussing about.
Then start the bodywork session, in which through different forms of touch I’ll guide your attention to specific parts of your body, in order to train your bodyawareness to recognize and stop physical patterns you fall into.
At the end of the session, I’ll let you integrate the work done by resting for a few minutes.
Why foot analysis?
Your posture – the way you stand in the world – is infused with your attitude and mood, influencing how you distribute your weight on your feet.
This leaves marks on your feet, which testify to the way you express yourself through your body.
I use foot reflexology to assess those marks and understand together how somatically you face certain aspects of your life, the root of your chronic conditions, and your behavioral patterns.
Do I need to prepare for a session in any way?
To start with, give yourself the best conditions to get the most out of the session: come ready to involve yourself, don’t eat a heavy meal in the 2 hours before, and most importantly allow for a little extra time before and after the session.
Think about something you want to achieve in the session: It can be improving a physical condition, learning more about your behavioral patterns, training your body attention, or simply curiosity about the method.
If you come by bike/car, please take a short walk before starting to drive on the way back.
What should I wear to a body therapy session?
During the session, you should be able to breathe deeply and move freely while providing access to the body parts we choose to work on. Hence, the session is usually conducted in underwear. Should you want to keep your bra on, make sure that it is not too tight or constricts your chest, back, or shoulders.
In case you prefer to receive the session fully clothed, please wear light and comfortable garments like shorts/leggings and a thin shirt.
How many sessions will I need to see any results?
The duration of a process really depends on your aim and your commitment to the sessions.
Usually the first achievements in terms of wellbeing and attention come in 1-2 sessions.
How long does a process take?
The duration of a process may vary from a few weeks to several months.
It depends on the aim you want to achieve, how the process proceeds, and your commitment in terms of time and energy invested in learning: how frequently you get sessions, how much you train your body awareness between the sessions, and how much you implement what learned during the sessions in your daily life.
I had clients’ processes based on physical pain that ended in a couple of months, as well as more deep and articulated lasting more than 2 years.
I usually estimate the progress of a process in 8 sessions, after which we can evaluate the work done and the achievements.
How often should I take sessions?
Especially at the beginning of a process, for the first 2 months, my recommendation is to take weekly sessions to regularly train your body awareness.

Health & Safety Considerations
Can the Grinberg Method help with emotional trauma or stress-related issues?
Yes, the Grinberg Method can be highly effective in addressing emotional trauma and stress-related issues. Through body awareness and sensory attention, this approach helps you recognize and release physical tension linked to emotional experiences.
Are there any side effects of body therapy?
It’s possible to experience a temporary worsening (12-24h) of symptoms after the first sessions you receive.
The Grinberg Method works by bringing awareness to physical sensations. During the first session, you might be guided to feel areas you’ve subconsciously avoided. This can stir up underlying discomfort you weren’t fully aware of before.
If something like this happens, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
What physical conditions can the Grinberg Method help with?
If your pain is related to psychosomatic, stress-related, or chronic conditions, what causes it is a set of bodily actions. In a pain management or recovery process, I teach you to stop the physical pattern that feeds your pain, letting your body gain energy and heal the condition that causes pain.
Are there any medical conditions that would prevent me from getting body therapy?
I ask my clients to check with a doctor about the origin of the condition they struggle with, in order to assess that no medical ailment generates it.
For people who recently had an injury or surgery, working on recovering helps the body gain more energy to heal faster.
Can I receive a Session if I’m pregnant?
For pregnant women, there are no restrictions in getting an appointment, but only on the techniques used in the session.
